Cockroach control this season

Cockroaches can carry a wide range of diseases – from salmonella and dysentery to gastroenteritis or diarrhoea, so keeping them out of commercial premises, particularly from areas where food is being prepared or handled, is vital.

They’re also notoriously difficult to eradicate, the main reason why people call in the experts when they realise they have an infestation. Also, these amour-plated pests breed at an alarming rate, so choosing the right product is essential to ensure that every cockroach is eliminated.

Principal consultant at the Pest Management Consultancy, Clive Boase, says it’s important for pest controllers to use insect detectors to assess the extent of any infestation.

“When a pest controller is called out to a kitchen, he needs to do a survey using insect detectors, and then treat the areas where the cockroaches are present. You must be led by the results from your monitoring.”

Mr Boase also suggested that pest controllers take a look around the outside of any buildings, especially when treating an infestation in the summer.

“Some species of cockroach will venture outdoors especially on a warm night, so if you have a look round the outside of the building you may find evidence of infestation there,” he says.

There are a number of options available to treat an infestation, but it’s also worth following some basic steps to keep the pests at bay.

Clive says kitchens and bathrooms must be kept clean, and food or food remnants should never be left out on any surfaces.  Other simple measures, such as removing rubbish bins and ensuring that areas are kept dry, will also deter the pests.

For an attractive gel bait which controls all major cockroach species then Maxforce® Prime offers the ideal solution.

Maxforce® Prime has been specially formulated to be as palatable as possible to cockroaches, and has the best consumption rate across the species, with a premium bait matrix.  The premium bait matrix enhances the time taken for Nymphs to feed on the product enabling a PCO to get an infestation under control faster.

Odourless and easy to use, Maxforce® Prime gel bait is so versatile it can be applied in small spots or strips and it can withstand temperatures of up to 540c.

Also in the Bayer portfolio is Maxforce® White IC, a white gel formulation which is odourless, inconspicuous and easy to use. It’s convenient, and offers minimal disruption to the customer – they don’t need to vacate the premises during, or after, treatment, so it’s great for treating business premises and private homes.

Cockroaches will feed on Maxforce® White IC straight after application. The product is passed from one cockroach to another, maximising elimination. There should be evidence of dead cockroaches within 24 hours of treatment. The gel is long-lasting, and will adhere to any clean surface for some time.
